My Approach
An interview can be a very intense experience... and not always (in fact rarely) in a good way. You attend a meeting which essentially is laid out as though it is a normal conversation and yet it feels in every way as though it is a test. It is often stressful, unnerving and it can be very difficult to interpret the questions that are asked of you. In fact ever since you sat down to answer the advertisement you have probably been trying to guess what is it the employer may want to hear from your answers.
However, if you have the skills to do the job, then perhaps the interview experience should be less about guessing what the interview panel want to hear and more about what you would like to tell them?
During the last 10 years I have interviewed hundreds of potential candidates and on more than one occasion I felt that the top candidate potentially slipped through the net because he or she simply struggled to interpret the coded language of the recruitment process. I wish to use my lengthy experience as a panel member and recruitment manager to teach you this code and help you present your skills in a light that ensures that you become your prospective employers Top Candidate.
My Experience
Further to my professional qualification in Human Resource Management, I have extensive experience in planning, running and chairing recruitment events. I have interviewed for a wide range of positions from junior assistants for senior medical consultants. I have worked in managerial roles for UK companies for 10 years and during 2004 – 2010 I managed major national recruitment rounds from advertisement to appointment. I have also advised panel members on running appointments panels and I have supported and guided panel members regarding legal aspects of recruitment, interviewing and appointment making. In addition I have given regular training sessions on how to manage a successful appointments panel.
During my professional career I have therefore picked up a lot of ‘trade secrets’ from the other side of the table in the interview room and I would be glad to share these with you.
